Voices and previews

Preview a voice before picking it#

Every voice in the picker — Settings → Voice & audio, and the setup wizard — has its own play button. Click it to hear a short sample through whatever speaker you've selected, without changing your current voice; click the voice itself, not the play button, to actually select it.

More voices#

The voice picker shows the voices for your current reply language: a handful up front, with a "more voices" link that expands the rest in place. Every reply language has at least one male and one female voice, and English has the widest choice; a small ♂ or ♀ mark on each card shows the voice's gender. WingHUD's voice library is updated from time to time, so the list can grow without needing a new version of the app.

A voice for each reply language#

Voices belong to a reply language, so the picker lists the voices for the reply language you've set, and changing Reply language switches the list. WingHUD remembers your pick for each language separately. In a language where you haven't picked a voice yet, it uses that language's default voice, male or female to match your last pick.

If voices don't load#

If WingHUD can't fetch the voice previews right then, the picker tells you so and lets you pick a voice by name anyway — come back and preview it later once your connection is back.
