Party voice

Talk to your party#

Voice starts on its own as soon as a friend is in the party with you; the mic bar above the party chat shows "Voice on" once you're connected. Pick Open mic (you're heard whenever you speak) or Push to talk (you're heard only while you hold Ctrl+K (default — change it in Settings → Hotkeys)). In Open mic, Settings → Friends & party → Open mic threshold sets how loud you need to be before your mic opens; 0 means any sound. The push-to-talk key is separate from the mic hotkey, which stays the wingman's: holding the mic hotkey in the party room asks the wingman instead.

When voice starts and pauses#

Party voice only runs while there's someone to talk to. On your own in a party, the mic bar says "Voice starts when a friend joins" and voice connects the moment one does. When everyone else leaves, voice stays on for a minute in case they come straight back, then stops. If the party goes quiet for 20 minutes (nobody talks, nothing is posted), voice pauses for everyone and the mic bar says "Voice paused". To bring it back, press your push-to-talk key, just start talking in Open mic, post a message, or press Resume: everyone in the party reconnects. Party text, pictures and the wingman keep working the whole time, including spoken wingman answers when you're on your own.

Mute yourself or the party#

The two buttons at the right of the party mic bar mute your mic ("Mute my mic") and silence the party for you ("Mute party voice for me"); a muted button is dimmed with a slash. To silence one person, right-click their avatar and choose Mute for me - only you stop hearing them. The leader can also choose Mute for everyone: that member's mic is off for the whole party until the leader unmutes them, and they see "The party leader muted your mic."

When the wingman speaks in the party#

When someone asks the wingman by voice, the spoken answer plays in the party's voice room for everyone. Each member can press Stop for me on the voice indicator to stop it for themselves only. Whoever asks decides whether their answers are spoken to the party: Settings → Friends & party → "Play the wingman's replies out loud to the party" (on by default). The speaker icon on an answer replays it just for you.

Is party voice recorded?#

No. Party voice goes live from your mic to the other members and is never recorded or stored - not by WingHUD and not by the service that relays it. While voice is paused in Open mic, WingHUD listens to your mic on your PC only to notice that you started talking; nothing is sent until voice reconnects. The only thing kept is when each member joined and left a party's voice (and whether voice stopped because they were alone or the party went quiet), for 180 days, to measure usage. Only a question you ask the wingman by voice is turned into text, like any voice question.

Output device#

Party voice uses WingHUD's own microphone and speakers unless you pick others in Settings → Friends & party → Party microphone and Party output device. The cog next to the mic bar's buttons opens those settings. Lowering your game's audio while a friend talks isn't available yet.

What your network needs#

Party voice only makes outgoing connections, so there's nothing to forward on your router and no ports to open. It works alongside Discord or any other voice app; just keep only one of them hearing your microphone if you don't want to be heard twice. If voice stays on "Connecting voice…", a firewall or security suite is usually blocking it - see Troubleshooting → Friends & party.
