How WingHUD knows your game

Applies to WingHUD 3.0 · Updated October 15, 2026 · English only

Game detection#

WingHUD sees which game is running on your PC and starts every answer with that game in mind, so you never have to say what you're playing. It recognizes 200+ PC games, and each one gets its own chat and its own memory of what you've asked before. Once a day it also checks your game launchers for the games you have installed, so general questions — what to play next, whether your PC will run something — fit your library. If you're playing a game it doesn't recognize, WingHUD may ask under an answer whether you're playing it; click Yes and it detects that game from then on.

What you show it#

WingHUD only sees your screen when you show it. Screenshot sends your whole screen, Area Capture sends just the part you drag out — a HUD element, a talent tree, a loadout — and Last Scene sends a few frames from your recent gameplay, so you can ask about a moment after it happened. Last Scene is off until you turn it on, and even then those frames stay in memory on your PC until you ask.

Dota 2: the live feed and your Steam history#

Yes — in Dota 2, WingHUD follows your match through the game's own data feed: your hero, items, gold, score and the match clock, updated as you play, without watching your screen. During the draft, clicking the Dota 2 widget reads the pick screen for both teams' picks, the bans and your role. Connect Steam and WingHUD also learns from your recent matches — your hero pool, win rates and roles — so its suggestions fit how you actually play.

World of Warcraft: the Companion#

Yes, once the Companion addon is installed — one click from the WoW widget. It records your class, spec, level, gear, zone and weekly progress, plus a short log of your session, and WingHUD reads it each time you type /reload. It doesn't update live while you play, so type /reload again if something looks out of date.

Current-patch lookup#

Yes. WingHUD tracks each supported game's latest version and patch notes, and when a question depends on something recent — a balance change, a new item, this week's meta — it looks it up at the moment you ask and cites where the answer came from. For Dota 2 it also keeps its own hero and matchup data, refreshed every week.

Built-in game libraries#

For some games, WingHUD carries its own built-in library: curated knowledge about the game's heroes or classes, items, abilities, matchups and strategies, organized so WingHUD can pull exactly what your question needs, and kept up to date as the game patches. WingHUD answers from that library first, so answers are quicker and more consistent, and still looks things up online when a question needs something newer. More games get their own library over time.

Where it looks things up#

For each of the 200+ games it recognizes, WingHUD keeps a researched guide to where that game's best and most current information lives — the most complete community wiki for builds and item stats, the official patch notes, pro-settings sites for shooters — and what players usually ask about it. When a question needs a lookup, WingHUD goes to those sources first instead of taking whatever a general web search turns up, and tells you where the answer came from. These guides are updated as games and sites change, without needing a new version of the app.

What it remembers about you#

WingHUD remembers you as a player, for each game and in general. As you chat, it keeps notes on things like your rank or level, the heroes, classes or loadouts you main, how you like to play, what you're struggling with and the goals you're working toward, plus what it advised and how that went. It also recalls your last few chats about the same game. So when you come back days later, answers start from where you are instead of from scratch, and it can pick up where you left off. It only keeps notes about you and your own play, never general game facts. Settings → Data & privacy → "Clear memory" makes WingHUD forget everything it has learned about you, both the notes on your PC and the ones on WingHUD's servers. Your chats themselves stay in the chat history until you delete them.

How it differs from ChatGPT or a browser AI#

A browser AI only knows what you type into it; WingHUD starts from your game. It sits on top of the game, already knows which game is running, sees what you choose to show it, and in Dota 2 and World of Warcraft reads your live match or your character directly. It also remembers what it learns about you per game, so later answers start from your playstyle, level and goals instead of from scratch.
