Choosing your microphone and speaker#

Settings → Voice & audio lets you choose which microphone WingHUD listens to and which speaker or headset it plays voice replies through — useful if your PC has more than one of either. A level meter next to the microphone dropdown moves when it hears you, so you can confirm the right device is picked before relying on it.

Choosing WingHUD's voice#

Settings → Voice & audio shows a grid of voices for your current reply language — press play on any card to hear a short preview through your selected speaker, then pick the one you want. A few are shown up front with a link to see more, and every language has both male and female voices. Your pick is remembered separately for each reply language.

Speed#

The Speed slider on the Voice & audio page controls how fast spoken replies play — the middle of the slider is WingHUD's normal speaking pace, drag right to speed it up or left to slow it down. The change is deliberately gentle, so replies still sound natural at either end of the slider.

Reply language#

Reply language, on the Voice & audio page, sets the language your replies come back in — separate from App language (Settings → General), which only controls WingHUD's own menus and buttons. WingHUD doesn't guess your language: replies always come back in the language set here, whatever language you type or speak in, and it listens for that language when you talk. English (US) is the default. One thing to know: if you've never touched Reply language, it follows whatever App language is currently set to — so setting a specific App language locks your replies to it too, unless you come back here and set Reply language independently.

Playback volume#

Settings → Voice & audio → "Playback volume" controls how loud WingHUD's spoken replies play — drag the slider to the level you want.

Voice Wingman#

Voice Wingman lets you hold the mic hotkey and ask a question out loud even while the overlay is closed — WingHUD answers back by voice, with no need to open the chat window first. Turn it on from Settings → Voice & audio. It's not the "Hey Wingman" wake word — that's Open Mic, for asking without pressing a key.

Open Mic#

"Open Mic", on the Voice & audio page, lets you ask hands-free: say "Hey Wingman" (or "Hi Wingman") and then your question, no key needed. It listens for the wake word on your PC and sends only what you say after it — nothing before. The same switch sits on the mic widget, labeled "Hey Wingman Wake". Push-to-talk keeps working alongside it, and a quick click on the mic widget pauses or resumes listening (the switch is what turns it on or off).

Keep the mic widget visible#

By default the mic widget only appears while you're recording or WingHUD is speaking. Turn on "Keep the mic widget visible" in Settings → Voice & audio to keep it on screen all the time instead.

Read replies aloud#

Settings → Voice & audio → "Read replies aloud" makes WingHUD read every answer to you: typed or spoken questions, screenshots, area captures and Last Scene. It's the same setting as the speaker button next to the mic (under the chat and in the in-game chat), which shows "Read aloud" or "Text only". It starts off; using the mic turns it on (see the next setting). Off, every answer arrives as text, and the speaker under an answer still reads that one when you click it. Answers to a spoken question are kept short for listening; typed questions get the full answer, read as written.

Turn on read-aloud when I use the mic#

Settings → Voice & audio → "Turn on read-aloud when I use the mic" - on by default - switches "Read replies aloud" on whenever you ask by voice (push-to-talk, a click on the mic, Open Mic or Voice Wingman), so talking gets spoken answers. It stays on, for typed questions too, until you switch the speaker off; the next time you use the mic it comes back on. Turn this setting off if you want to talk to WingHUD and read its answers: then the speaker changes only when you click it.

Start speaking as soon as the reply begins#

Settings → Voice & audio → "Start speaking as soon as the reply begins" (experimental) begins speaking a reply before it's fully generated, cutting the wait before you hear WingHUD start talking.
