Can WingHUD see my screen?
Can WingHUD see my screen?#
Only when you let it, and you choose how. Screenshot (Ctrl+2 (default - change it in Settings → Hotkeys)) or Area Capture (Ctrl+X (default - change it in Settings → Hotkeys)) sends one picture for one question. Last Scene, when it's on, sends the last few seconds when you press it. Watch Me Play (alpha), while it's on, looks at your game about once a second (with Whole screen, the whole monitor it's on) and keeps short notes, so you can ask without describing anything. If none of these was used, your wingman hasn't seen anything, and it says so.
Which one should I use?#
One question about what's on screen now: a Screenshot, or Area Capture over just the part that matters, which reads sharper. Something that just happened: Last Scene, if it's on, or just ask while Watch Me Play is on. A stretch of play with many questions, like a draft, a dungeon, a puzzle or a new game: Watch Me Play, then stop it. It uses watch minutes only while it's on and not paused, and it works in any game WingHUD detects in overlay mode, except games we've marked as not allowed because their rules forbid tools that read the screen. That list may be incomplete, so check a game's rules yourself. Not sure? Tell your wingman what you're trying to do and it suggests one.
Game data without the screen#
Some games give WingHUD their data directly. In Dota 2, your hero, items, gold, score and the match clock come from Dota's live feed, and the Dota 2 widget reads the draft in one click; Watch Me Play adds the draft with no clicks and what's on screen during the match. In World of Warcraft, the Companion addon gives your class, spec, gear and progress. For those, you rarely need the screen.
Is it real-time?#
No. An answer takes a few seconds, and while Watch Me Play is on, the newest note can be a few seconds old. It won't spot enemies or call a fight as it happens. It works well between rounds, after a death ("what killed me?"), for loadout and map questions, and in games where a few seconds don't matter, like strategy games, RPGs, puzzles, drafts and dungeons.
Does it speak up on its own?#
Not yet. For now your wingman answers when you ask, by voice or text; spoken callouts (Coach mode) are coming soon. Until then, ask when you need something, or ask "anything I'm missing?" before a fight or a pull.
Does WingHUD record my screen?#
No. Screenshot and Area Capture send only the picture you chose. Last Scene, when it's on, keeps a short buffer in memory and sends nothing until you press it. Watch Me Play reads your game while it's on, and a thin frame shows it. On Windows 11 it reads only the game window by default. On Windows 10, or in a game that doesn't allow window capture, it reads the game's area of the screen, and with Whole screen it reads the whole monitor the game is on; in both cases anything shown there can be in a frame, WingHUD's own windows included. It sends frames through our servers to our AI provider to write short notes; we store no frames on our servers. The frames picked for notes stay in memory on your PC for five minutes, never on disk, so a question can carry up to five, handled like a screenshot you send. They're cleared when the watch stops, the game changes or WingHUD exits. One click stops it.
