Screenshots and Area Capture

Take a screenshot#

Press Ctrl+2 (default — change it in Settings → Hotkeys), or click the Screenshot widget, to capture the monitor your game is running on. WingHUD briefly hides itself first so its own overlay doesn't end up in the picture. By default the screenshot is staged as an attachment so you can type a question about it before sending.

Capture just part of the screen#

Press Ctrl+X (default — change it in Settings → Hotkeys), or click the Area Capture widget, to select a rectangle of your screen instead of the whole monitor — useful for a specific HUD element, a loadout panel, or anything you don't need the full screen for. Drag to draw the region, release to confirm; the selection attaches to your chat the same way a full screenshot does.

Send several screenshots in one message#

With Auto Send off, each screenshot or area capture is added to the message instead of replacing the last one, up to 10. They show as thumbnails above the chat box with a count ("3 of 10 screenshots"): click a thumbnail to see it full size, or its ✕ to remove just that one. Type your question and send them all together. At 10, a new capture isn't taken until you send or remove one. Last Scene is different: it's one clip per message, and staging it replaces any staged screenshots (and the other way round).

Paste an image, or copy one from the chat#

Press Ctrl+V in the chat box with an image on the clipboard — a snip, a picture copied in your browser or another app, the Print Screen key, or an image file copied in File Explorer — and it's added above the box like an area capture, up to 10 per message. Nothing is sent until you press Send; in a party it goes on the party's capture chip. If the clipboard also holds text, the text is pasted instead. To copy a picture out of the chat, right-click it — in a message, above the box, in the party chat or enlarged — and choose Copy image.

Ask a follow-up about a screenshot#

WingHUD remembers what your screenshots, area captures and Last Scene clips showed. For your next couple of questions within a few minutes it still sees the picture itself, so you can send a screenshot and then ask about it by voice with the overlay closed. After that it keeps short notes of what was on screen, such as an open shop, your gold and your items, so a later question about it is answered from those notes. The notes are kept with the chat on your PC.

Auto Send#

Both the Screenshot and Area Capture widgets have their own "Auto Send" switch, off by default. With it off, a capture is staged so you can add a question before sending. Turn it on and the capture sends immediately with no question attached — useful if you just want a read on whatever's on screen right now.

Screenshots in a party#

With the party chat open, Screenshot and Area capture (the widgets, their hotkeys, and the camera buttons in the party's mic bar) attach the picture to your next party message instead of a question to the wingman. It goes to the party only when you press Send. Write @wingman in the message to ask the wingman about it. See Friends & party → Party chat.
