Overlay and hotkeys
The overlay doesn't show up in my game#
If a game runs in true Fullscreen mode, Windows lets it draw over every other window, including WingHUD's — your hotkeys are still working, you just can't see the result, or WingHUD only shows up once you minimize the game or Alt+Tab out of it. Switch the game to Borderless or Windowed Fullscreen in its own display settings, and the overlay draws normally again.
If your game has no Borderless option, set it to Windowed and turn on Settings → General → "Force fullscreen borderless" (experimental): WingHUD stretches the game's window to fill your main screen, so it looks fullscreen and the overlay still shows. It only works on a game left in Windowed mode — it can't change a game that's already in true Fullscreen.
The game looks darker in Borderless mode#
Some games apply their own brightness or gamma setting only in true Fullscreen, so after switching to Borderless the picture can look darker. Your graphics card's color settings work in every mode: in the NVIDIA Control Panel, Display → Adjust desktop color settings (brightness, gamma, digital vibrance); in AMD Software, Display → Custom Color. WingHUD itself doesn't change how bright your game looks.
My hotkey isn't working#
Two common causes: another app on your PC already uses that combination (Settings → Hotkeys shows a warning when this happens), or the overlay itself isn't visible due to true Fullscreen mode — see the section above. Try a different combination, or switch your game's display mode.
Is WingHUD safe to use with anti-cheat?#
WingHUD draws its overlay without touching the game's files, memory, or process — the same category of software as a chat app or a Discord overlay, not a mod or a hack. For the full technical explanation, see Is WingHUD Safe With EAC, BattlEye and Vanguard?.
Does WingHUD lower my FPS?#
WingHUD is light while you play. With the overlay closed, its window is hidden and draws nothing over your game: during a Dota 2 match it used about 0.15% of the CPU and no GPU. It doesn't read or hook into the game, and it only looks at your screen when you ask, with a widget click or a screenshot hotkey. Last Scene is the one exception: while it's on, it keeps a picture of your screen every second. It's off unless you turn it on. So there's no need to exit WingHUD after the draft: close the overlay with Ctrl+Tab (default — change it in Settings → Hotkeys) and keep playing. With Voice Wingman on, Ctrl+1 (default — change it in Settings → Hotkeys) still takes voice questions while it's closed.
WingHUD said "Oops, something went wrong"#
That message means something unexpected went wrong inside WingHUD. It's reported to the WingHUD team automatically, and WingHUD keeps running — close the message and try again. If it comes back every time you do the same thing, send a note from Settings → About → "Support" describing what you were doing.
