Connecting Discord

What linking Discord does#

Linking your Discord account brings your Discord friends into WingHUD's Friends widget: you see who's online, who's in WingHUD right now, and you can invite any of them to your party. Party voice runs through Discord, and your Discord friends see what you're doing in WingHUD on your Discord profile. Your WingHUD friends show in the same list, so everyone is in one place. Linking is optional: party voice and invites work without it too.

Connect your Discord account#

Click Connect Discord in the Friends widget, under your own name, or in Settings → Friends & party → Discord. Discord's sign-in opens in the Discord app or your browser, and the overlay steps aside so you can see it; approve WingHUD there. Back in WingHUD the row shows your Discord name with "Discord connected", and your Discord friends appear in the Friends widget. One Discord account can be linked to one WingHUD account.

Using WingHUD without linking Discord#

You don't need a Discord account. If you don't link one, WingHUD sets up a Discord identity that only exists inside WingHUD, under your WingHUD display name, so party voice and invites still work. Your WingHUD friends show in the Friends widget as "WingHUD friend". If you link a Discord account later, that identity and its friends move over to it.

Your Discord friends in WingHUD#

The Friends widget lists your Discord friends under DISCORD · ONLINE, with their Discord status; offline friends fold under DISCORD OFFLINE. "In WingHUD" means that friend is using WingHUD right now, with what they're doing. "WingHUD friend" marks a WingHUD friend who appears here because you're friends in WingHUD; adding friends still works with your friend code. Right-click a friend to Block on Discord. Names, avatars and friends are shown live from Discord and never stored by WingHUD.

Invite a Discord friend to your party#

Click Invite on a friend in the Discord list; WingHUD starts a party for you first if you're not in one. Your friend gets the invite as a toast and a blue pill at the top of the overlay ("… invited you to a party (Discord)") with Join, and in Discord as a message. If they're offline, the invite waits for 24 hours and shows the next time they open WingHUD. Decline is on the toast, or right-click the inviter in the Discord list and choose Decline invite.

Party voice through Discord#

Party voice runs through Discord inside WingHUD; you don't need the Discord app open. If anyone in the party can't use Discord voice, or Discord voice isn't available, the whole party moves to WingHUD's backup voice on its own, and moves back later. While it switches, voice goes quiet for a few seconds. Push-to-talk, mute and the wingman's spoken answers work the same either way.

What Discord friends see, and what WingHUD keeps#

While WingHUD is open, your Discord friends see WingHUD on your Discord profile, with the game you're playing and whether you're in a party. Turn off "Show what I'm playing" in Settings → Friends & party to hide the game, or set your status to Invisible or Offline to show nothing. Your WingHUD friends can see your Discord name and avatar. WingHUD stores only your Discord user id; disconnecting deletes it. The privacy policy has the details.

Disconnect Discord#

Click Disconnect next to your Discord name in the Friends widget or in Settings → Friends & party → Discord. WingHUD forgets your Discord account and goes back to its WingHUD-only Discord identity, so party voice and invites keep working. You can connect again any time.
